PLYMOUTH, N.H.-A veteran financial officer with more than 20 years experience in higher education has been named Plymouth State University's Vice President for Finance and Administration. Stephen Taksar of Georgetown, Ind. is currently the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Ind. A native New Englander, he grew up in Enfield, Conn., earned his bachelor's degree at Central Connecticut State University, his Master of Education degree at Northeastern University, and an M.B.A. at Providence College.
PSU President Sara Jayne Steen said Taksar's experience and expertise will serve the University well.
"He is a senior administrator of demonstrated skill, a highly respected financial professional, and an active member of his community. His combination of talents will serve Plymouth State University well and enhance our ability to work on behalf of New Hampshire," said Steen.
At Indiana University Southeast, Taksar led the proposal process and financial planning for the commuter campus' first residence halls and introduced critical support systems to enhance services for all students, such as a one-card ID system, enhanced dining options, and the long term strategy for campus security. His other experience in higher education includes positions as chief operations officer at Babson College's School of Executive Education in Wellesley, Mass., assistant vice president of finance and operations at Curry College in Milton, Mass., and business manager at Wheaton College, Norton, Mass.
In service to his profession, Taksar serves as an evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission's North Central accrediting body and is an active member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Society of College and University Planners. He is also the vice chair of the Board of Trustees at Providence Junior/Senior High School in Clarksville, Ind.

The current vice president, William Crangle, is moving toward retirement after 13 years as PSU's chief financial officer. Crangle helped engineer a campus strategic planning initiative that refocused admission standards and goals to improve the school's academic foundation and fiscal position. He also spearheaded the planning and design of the first LEED Gold certified building in New Hampshire, Langdon Woods Residence Hall, which brought national attention to the University for its model of sustainability. Crangle will remain at PSU in a half-time capacity as special assistant to the President overseeing the University's environmental sustainability efforts.
Taksar begins his duties in August. This summer, he will be relocating to New Hampshire with his wife, Laure Morris, and their two sons, Samuel, 5, and Eli, 2.
